Video in Teaching
There has never been a better time to integrate the use of video into your teaching. Advances in technology let us compress large video files for streaming at a fraction of their original file size, whilst still yielding impeccable quality.
Streaming media has been around for a few years now but exciting times are ahead. The advent of streaming media on mobile devices has exploded and it’s only a matter of time before students will be catching up on lectures via video podcasts on their mobile phones, iPods and iPads.
The eTeam offers media production services that range from filming student presentations for assessments and feedback to conferences, events, Lectures and location shoots at big name corporations such as Microsoft and Warner Brothers. These can be delivered on DVD, and hosted on our windows media streaming server.
So why would you want to integrate video into your teaching?
The advantages of video over conventional lectures are that videos can be watched at any time of the day and night, in the comfort of your home at your convenience.
It’s extremely beneficial to distance learning students that may have to fit their studies around full time work and family life. Video’s can be rewound and watched as many times as needed and deliver succinct information, removing the need to sift through pages and pages of text to find key points.
Written explanations can be replaced with colourful animated illustrations and graphics which is a more stimulating cognitive approach to learning therefore keeping students attention engaged for longer.
Video can even save you time. A comprehensive video tutorial on how to use referencing software such as Endnote for example means that the lecturer giving that weekly/monthly tutorial will no longer have to present the same workshop over and over again.
If you’re interested in using video in your teaching don’t hesitate to get in touch with the eTeam for a consultaion. We’re open to all ideas.
